Planning your wedding is so exciting, but let’s be honest….extremely overwhelming. There’s so much to think about, it is hard to even know where to start. While there are so many helpful resources and ‘To Do’ lists out there to help keep you on track, it can be difficult to make decisions about theme, decor, and design. These are all up to YOU and your style. So here are some ideas and some guidance to how you can create a beautiful wedding from a blank slate!
At Providence Vineyard, the glam, white barn provides a blank canvas for you to turn into whatever you feel. Our weddings have ranged from rustic, to chic, to boho, to black tie, and beyond.
One of our couples, Luke & Ellen, tied the knot in August of 2021 and are a fantastic example on how to transform a space into your own. Let’s take a look at the various design choices they made and how it all came together for a picture perfect summer wedding!
The scenery at Providence Vineyard already provides beautiful backdrops for photos without any decor!
The gorgeous chandeliers at Providence Vineyard provide a unique look and allow for minimal to no decoration!
Theme/Colors and Florals:
A wedding theme gives you a place to start. It can be as simple as choosing a style or a color. It can be helpful to start with a season and go from there! What feels right to you? What have you dreamed of? Ellen & Luke’s wedding involved summer-themed, bright colors and florals.
At Providence Vineyard, the all white barn provides opportunities for any style of florals to look amazing!
Florals can make up a large chunk of your decor!Luke & Ellen’s floral arrangements, done by VIP Events Decor, flowed well with their bright, summery theme and tied everything together!
Luke & Ellen decided on some summer-themed appetizers, drinks, and dishes that flowed amazingly with their colors and theme! Your caterer/bartender will help provide options to choose dishes and drinks that flow with the theme and season you have chosen! Viola’s Catering did an amazing job helping Luke & Ellen’s food and beverage spread tie in with their theme!
Aches/Altars
When choosing your altar to stand under for your ceremony, know that it can be simple! A simple backdrop, a simple arch, floral arrangements, or a wall. You can then reuse your altar or altar floral arrangements for your reception! At Providence Vineyard, there are options for an outdoor ceremony or indoor ceremony…both with beautiful in-place backdrops. The outdoor, stationary pergola is nestled within the vines of the 15-acre vineyard and allows for personal, easy-set-up decor. The indoor space provides a beautiful white wall and glass windows with the option to use sliding barn doors or glass doors as the backdrop. Luke and Ellen utilized a simple, yet glamorous arch in front of the glass doors as their altar for their ceremony and their backdrop for their sweetheart table during reception!
The indoor space at Providence Vineyard allows for your personal decor to look fabulous no matter the style or season! Ellen & Luke’s altar had dual purposes!
The outdoor ceremony location, oak tree, and surrounding grounds allow for personal decor or a simple photo op with no decor needed!
Furniture
Depending on your theme, renting or thrifting some unique furniture to put in your blank space, whether it be indoor or outdoor, can provide not only a beautiful look, but also functional seating! At Providence Vineyard, there are several furniture items already in place for an amazing look! The swing hanging on the oak tree, the white dessert table, tufted benches, bridal and groom suite furniture, golf cart, cross-back wood chairs, circle dinner tables, wine barrels, sweetheart table, stationary mirrors in the suites and behind the bar, a vintage dresser, chandeliers, and antique doors are all included. Farm tables are available for rent as well. Luke and Ellen utilized all of Providence Vineyard’s features as well as set up some of their own!
Table Scapes
Your dinnerware and table arrangements should stay on trend with your theme/colors. These are the small touches that tie everything together. Here are some pictures of the beautiful table scapes from Luke & Ellen’s summer wedding at Providence Vineyard!
Aisle Decor, Signs, and Welcome Tables
Simple signs can not only provide great decor, but provide functional instructions, greetings, and labeling for your big day! Your signs should flow with your theme! Rugs, lanterns, florals, and candles are all great ideas for lining an aisle. Candlelight is such a great and inexpensive way to make the space look more elegant! Whether you want your aisle to be flooded with decor or provide a simple walk space for you to walk to your partner, Providence Vineyard provides the perfect space for either. All Luke and Ellen needed were some beautiful floral arrangements at the beginning of the aisle to make it look perfect!
Extras
If you have more room in your budget and the space, adding extras to your wedding day can make it even more unique, provide great photo ops, and be interactive for your guests: light up signs, photo walls, lights. Providence Vineyard also provides amazing backdrops that do not need much decor, including the vineyard, the oak tree, the vast open fields, the lit patio, the antique glass doors, the white staircase, the swing, and more! Luke & Ellen added some great extras to their wedding, including large, bright balloons on-theme, cold sparks, matching robes for getting ready, cute drink set ups, and a sparkler sendoff.
When deciding on the style/look you want for your dream day, you may hear opinions from so many:
“You want your wedding to be timeless, stick to the black tux, white dress, and neutral colors”….
”You want your wedding to stand out, choose pops of color, be unique!”….
”You want your wedding to be trendy….right now the theme is ____, go with that!”
These opinions can make decision making so difficult. At Providence Vineyard, our recommendation to you is to choose styles that are YOU. This day is about YOU and your PARTNER and the love that you share. You want to experience your wedding day surrounded by beautiful scenery that is comfortable for YOU. When the wedding day comes, guests will comment on the beauty, the trendiness, the timelessness, all they want. You will be celebrating your marriage with your loved ones knowing that you chose what is authentically YOU. Try not to let it stress you out and focus on what the day is truly about: sharing your love and commitment!
1 Peter 3:3-4 says “Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.”
We hope these points give you a starting place to begin organizing your wedding style, so you are able to narrow in on more specific decisions when there is a world full of options! Don’t be afraid to mix and match styles! Couples are mixing up styles all the time to fit what feels right to them! In our upcoming blog posts we will focus on these items more in depth!
